Membership

Why do we have church membership?

BELONG Membership CLASS

Whether membership in a church is formal or informal, there is a difference between "attenders" and "members" that can be summed up in one word: commitment.

We strongly encourage every believer to find a church that will help them grow deeper in his/her relationship with God and serve in the body of Christ. Commitment is a two-way street: The church is committed to its members, and the members are committed to the church.

A CULTURAL REASON

It's an antidote to our society. We live in an age where very few want to be committed to anything… a job… a marriage… a church family. This attitude has even produced a generation of “church shoppers,” Membership swims against the current of America’s “consumer religion.” Commitment always builds character.

A PERSONAL REASON

It produces spiritual growth. The New Testament emphasizes the need for Christians to be in each others' lives for spiritual growth. The church is our primary sphere to live out the one-another commands of scripture. Growing and maturing in Christ will drift when one is not committed to a church family.

A PRACTICAL REASON

It defines who can be counted on. Every team must have a roster. Every school must have an enrollment. Membership defines our family, and therefore we can count on one another. Membership also allows for church leadership to know who they are accountable for before the Lord.

A BIBLICAL REASON

Christ is committed to the church. Christ loved the church, and he gave his life for it. (Ephesians 5:25) "I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not overcome it." (Matthew 16:18) At Redemption, formal membership is our way of clearly communicating commitment to one another.

Interested in learning more about becoming a member?

Step 1: Attend one of our semi-annual Belong Membership Classes to learn more about Redemption. Class meets every Sunday for 3 weeks following the second service, lunch & child care provided.

Step 2: Upon completion of the class, each individual will meet with a pastor to review and affirm their commitment to membership.

Child Dedication

Why dedicate my child?

Redemption believes children are a gift from the Lord. Child dedication is a commitment parents make before God, to raise children according to God’s purpose. It is our heart to partner with parents as a child grows and develops their own personal relationship with God. To that end, we offer a dedication service designed to help parents commit to raising a child to find and follow Jesus!

Baptism

Why be baptized?

Why Is Baptism Important?

Baptism is the first act of obedience to Jesus Christ and living a new life for Him. Baptism is something that Jesus both participated in and commanded those who choose to follow Him to take part in. It is a symbolic moment that allows us to physically identify with Jesus’ death (going into the water), resurrection (coming out of the water), and victory (celebrating the reality of eternal life alongside our Church family).

Who can be baptized?

A person must believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the gospel news that He is the only Savior from sin (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 8:37; 2:38).

A person must repentant of his/her sins and turn from them to live a holy life according to the Bible (Acts 17:30; 20:21; 26:20).

Groups

Why join a regroup?

Community is the heart of Redemption Church. ReGroups are small group gatherings where we Follow Jesus Together. Groups meet at various times and locations throughout the week.

Serve

Why serve?

We serve because he served

Jesus modeled serving. Jesus gives us the perfect example of living a life serving others. As Mark 10:45 explains, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” We are a member of the church

we were each uniquely gifted

Our membership in God’s church means we each have a unique role to play. 1 Peter 4:10 “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.”
